Vision Impairment Awareness Training

Training details:

We are pleased to announce the dates and venues of our upcoming free training days covering vision impairment awareness and associated conditions.

These free training days are run by Vicky and Dave, partners in VIDA Training. With over 25 years’ combined experience of working in the disability field and living with sight loss, we are able to provide lots of anecdotal experiences, exercises and interesting discussions. Whilst our training style is relaxed enough to ensure people are comfortable to join in and ask questions, we also aim to ensure that attendees receive top quality, memorable training.

Who can apply

These free courses are available due to funding from Surrey Joint Training and places are available to:

  • Staff, carers and volunteers at all levels working within local NHS/NHS Trusts, Surrey County Council or Borough Councils, Housing Associations, residential homes or domiciliary care providers
  • Anyone working or volunteering for voluntary organisations/ charities
  • Friends and family members of someone living with vision impairment, vision impairment & dementia or vision impairment and deafblindness
  • And who live and/or work in Surrey

Vision Impairment and Deafblindness Awareness

This one day introduction will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the conditions and impacts of living with a vision impairment or deafblindness. You will also learn about tips and techniques on how best to support someone living with these conditions.

Vision Impairment Awareness – A Practical Experience

This one day course is new to our programme and is packed with exercises and tasks to provide delegates with an insight into the impacts of living with a vision impairment and how best to provide support and aid effective communication.

Vision Impairment and Dementia Awareness

This one day introduction to vision impairment and dementia awareness will provide you with an opportunity to learn about the conditions and impacts of living with a vision impairment and/or dementia. You will also learn about ticks and techniques on how best to support someone living with these conditions.

Target audience

The course is primarily designed for those with responsibility for recruiting volunteers to their organisation.

Aim

To identify the key principles of attracting and recruiting appropriate volunteers
