Volunteering Opportunity: Snack Bar Volunteer
Suitable for volunteers interested in: Children, Young people
Opportunity activities: Youth Work
Description: At My Time clubs, young carers between the ages of 8 and 12 enjoy their breaks from home responsibilities and worries. Not all of them have eaten before club sessions and even those that have enjoy mid-session snacks. My Time provides free food for about 16 young people from a selection that might include filled rolls, sandwiches, pizzas, sausages or jacket potatoes. We always have fruit available and, of course, drinks. Snack Bar volunteers prepare and serve the food and clear away afterwards. Helping with My Time for Young Carers sessions and outings would be brilliant experience for students wishing to go into teaching, social work, sports-related professions or even medicine. Older volunteers will enjoy ‘letting their hair down’ with the odd game of table tennis or snakes and ladders. There is a warm atmosphere at My Time where the wellbeing of the youngsters is central to all that we do.

Very basic kitchen skills are required, but a friendly and approachable disposition is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team. A food hygine qualification would be useful.
