Description: This role involves helping disabled children and adults to ride adapted bicycles. Surrey Wheels for All has a wide range of cycling equipment to enable almost everyone, whatever their ability or needs, to enjoy cycling. Sessions take place on the running track at The Harrier Centre in Ewell on Thurs and Saturday afternoons and evenings. You will either be helping individual cyclists or providing extra support to group rides such as visiting Special Schools or Day Centres. Support needed by the cyclists varies from simply walking/riding beside them to give company and reassurance to ensuring they go the right way or not too fast and making sure they are safe. Free accredited Wheels for All Leader training is available to all volunteers, the training includes modules on risk assessments, manual handling and how to plan and deliver safe cycling sessions.
What is the organisation looking for?
Someone who knows how to ride a bike with an ability to give clear instruction and be observant of surroundings as needed by cyclists. A basic level of physical fitness is required as the role involves cycling or walking. You will need to have good communication skills, be patient, reliable, respectful and encouraging, and have a commitment to equal opportunities. The ability to smile and laugh is essential.
